Chief Justice Latest Order on Court Openings
Chief Justice Beasley issued new emergency orders about court operations across North Carolina. The orders extend some filing deadlines for filings submitted via mail, and postpone jury trials.
Under the latest order, the Chief Justice said all deadlines that have been previously extended to June 1st will not be extended any further with the exception of criminal matters.
Regarding summary ejectment and eviction hearings, NC AOC Director McKinley Wooten stated the plan is move forward with these cases while using social distancing, relying heavily on local court officials as they make decisions to put the cases back on the calendar. They will be heard but cognitive of safety and health.
